Rabbi Edward L. Israel was named new executive secretary of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, it was learned here today Rabbi Israel, who has been rabbi of Temple Har, Sinai at Baltimore since 1923, will succeed Rabbi George Zepin who resigned as U.A.H.C. executive secretary, effective October 1st, at the last convention of the organization in Detroit.
Rabbi Israel is a Zionist, his active service in that field including presidency of the Z.O.A. seaboard region since 1931 and membership on the national Executive Committee in 1935. He is chairman of the Social Justice Committee of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, member of the Executive Committee of the B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundation Commission and member of the Administrative Committee of the World Jewish Congress.
