The sixty-fifth annual convention of Grand Lodge No. 4, Independent Order B’nai Brith, closed last night with the election of Rabbi Edgar E. Magnin of Los Angeles, as president.
The other officers elected were: George M. Lipman, San Francisco and Rabbi Samuel Koch, Seattle, vice-president; Joseph L. Goldsmith, San Francisco. treasurer; Richard E. Gutstadt, San Francisco. executive secretary.
The women’s lodge elected Birdie Stodel, Los Angeles, president.
The next session will be held in Oakland, California, it was decided.
Dr. Abraham Schechter, Rabbi of Congregation Adath Yeshurun of Houston, has been unanimously reelected for a period of three years. Dr. Schechter is the founder and honorary president of the Texas Rabbinical Kallah Convention.
Plans for the construction of a temple have been completed by the B’nai Brith of Brecenridge, Texas, and work on the building will begin about July 15. The temple, which will be the first in Breckenridge, will be of brick construction, costing approximately $8,000.
Rabbi H. Raphael Gold. of Congregation Beth Israel, New Orleans, La. has accepted a call to Dallas. Texas. Rabbi Gold, who was for four years at the head of the New Orleans congregation, will be tendered a farewell banquet before his departure.
