Rabbi Yaacob Berman, one of the early Mizrachi movement leaders and founder of the religious education trend in Israeli schools, died Monday at his Rehovot home at the age of 96. Born in Lithuania, he held many rabbinical posts in Russia and was Chief Army Chaplain during the Kerensky regime. He arrived in Palestine in 1921 and became inspector of Mizrachi schools. He was winner of the “Israel Award” for his contributions to the field of education.
