A resolution urging the United States Government “to use all of its powers and prestige at the United Nations” to persuade the Arab states to negotiate with Israel for a permanent peace settlement, was adopted here by 300 rabbis attending a national conference of the Rabbinical Alliance of America, an Orthodox group.
The resolution also asked the United States to sell arms to Israel in order to counterbalance the furnishing of arms by the Communist countries to Egypt and other Arab lands. “We further urge our government to continue its economic aid to the Israel Government in order to help her become the fortress of democracy in the Middle East,” the resolution stated.
A resolution was also adopted calling upon the Congress of the United States “to revise the unfair McCarran-Walter Act” and to enact any other legislation” which will better reflect our democratic and moral aspirations.” The resolution continued: “This Act does great injury to the relationship with foreign people and is contrary to our finest democratic principles. By making distinction between native and naturalized citizens, by establishing arbitrary procedures and unfair standards for exclusion and deportation, our present immigration law is an immoral distinction among men.”
