Rabbinical supervision of the sale of kosher meat is not required, in the opinion of the Palestine Supreme Court in a ruling handed down yesterday.
The case arose out of a complaint against the order of General Storrs, acting on the complaint of the Chief Rabbinate, to close the shops of Jewish butchers in Tel Aviv who are slaughtering animals without license from the Rabbinate. The court ruled that the Rabbinical Council is not entitled to interfere in the matter. Butchers are permitted to pursue their business without license from the Rabbinate, provided the Mosaic law is scrupulously observed by them.
