A resolution demanding that the United States declare “persona non-grata” diplomatic representatives from the Arab states who have engaged in anti-Jewish campaigns in this country was adopted here today at the conference of the Rabbinical Council of America, an Orthodox rabbinical group.
The conference also addressed an appeal to President Eisenhower urging him “for the sake of world peace and the sanctity of the Holy Land, to take every measure to safeguard Israel’s security.” At the same time, it called upon American Jews “to give sacrificially” to the United Jewish Appeal campaign and to purchase Israel bonds. Rabbi David Hollander, president of the Rabbinical Council, addressing today’s session, appealed to the Christian clergy in this country to come to the aid of Israel “in a true spirit of bi-partisanship in religious affairs.”
The conference also adopted recommendations to aid growing Orthodox communities in South Africa and in Western Europe with religious personnel, teachers and rabbis; and to lay the foundations for a “truly united Orthodox rabbinate in America by forming united Orthodox rabbinical organizations in the major cities of the United States and Canada.” Plans were also revealed for the building of 100 Orthodox synagogues in as many suburban communities throughout the United States.
