A conference attended by more than 400 rabbis protested today against the import by the government of non-Kosher meat and called on the government to cease these imports immediately.
The conference also called on the public to refuse to purchase the non-Kosher meat and demanded that the government issue the non-Kosher meat rations only to non-Jews. The controversy arose over recent purchases of canned meat in Mexico to overcome the acute meat shortage here. Government officials emphasized that it was impossible to obtain adequate Kosher meat supplies.
