Many institutions of higher learning in the United States are being reached by rabbis, according to a report by Dr. Leo M. Franklin of Detroit at the session of the thirty-fourth annual convention of the Central Conference of American Rabbis. Dr. Edward N. Calisch of Richmond, Va. was in the Chair.
In his paper on “The Jewish Student at the University”, Rabbi Eugene Manzheimer of Des Moines, Ia. stressed the various approaches which should be made to the student mind in order to hold him faithful to Judaism.
The evening session was opened with prayer by Rabbi Stephen S. Wise of New York, after which President Calisch presented his message, dealing with important problems of present-day life in the United States. He urged that renewed efforts be made to reclaim the thousands unsynagogue Jews and to reach both the children and the adults effectives.
President Calisch urged again a special edition of an English Bible which should omit all unnecessary repetitions and should present the historical and moral record in the most interesting form possible.
