Rabbis around the world have signed a petition urging the Mizrachi Party in Israel to remove Israel Minister of Interior, Dr. Yosef Burg who, the rabbis charge, is registering non-Jews as Jews, the president of the National Committee for Jewish survival, Yosef Wilenkin, disclosed.
Wilenkin called the petition “historic” and “very rare that so many rabbis had signed.” Rabbis from New York, Los Angeles, Canada, France, England and Australia, including Rabbi Moshe Finestein, president of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of America and Canada, signed the petition, Wilenkin said.
The petition, according to Wilenkin, said “the Mizrachi with Dr. Burg as its leader is responsible for the tragic ‘Who is a Jew’ law” and “is to blame for the election of Rabbi (Shlomo) Goren as Chief Rabbi.” Wilenkin said the rabbis declared that the Mizrachi Party with Dr. Burg as leader “agrees to every anti-religious law enacted by the Israeli government.”
