Shochtim Union Local 440 is given a monopoly over all kosher slaughtering in New York City according to the terms of a final agreement signed Friday with the Kashruth Association.
The agreement, announced by Rabbi Nachman H. Ebin, chairman of the Kashruth Association, definitely binds the two organizations. It provides, among other things, that only markets employing members of Local 440 will receive rabbinical supervision.
A strike threatened by Local 440 yesterday to force market owners to sign agreements for supervision with the Kashruth Association, was averted when the market owners acceded to the Kashruth Association’s demands.
