Israel’s Ambassador in Washington, Yitzhak Rabin, is due to arrive in Israel at the end of this month. Officially. Rabin’s arrival was said today to be in connection with his father, Nehemia Rabin “shloshim” (thirtieth day after his death). But it is understood that the Ambassador will discuss with the government American efforts to induce Israel and Egypt to agree to an interim accord for reopening of the Suez Canal. Recently the US emphasized its belief that Cairo left the door open for such an arrangement. Israel also prefers partial arrangement to the renewal of Dr. Gunnar V. Jarring’s mission. Both Washington and Jerusalem object to bringing the Middle East dispute to the United Nations Security Council. However, the government will finalize its attitude after the arrival of Foreign Minister Abba Eban who is expected to return tonight.
