Gen. Itzhak Rabin, former Israeli chief of staff and Ambassador-designate to the United States, arrived here today on vacation before taking up his duties in Washington. In an interview with the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, he expressed the hope that Franco-Israeli relations would be improved. He said that “in any case, we cannot forget that France aided us greatly for many years.”
Commenting on reports that France would sell Mirage aircraft to Iraq although delivery of these planes to Israel has been embargoed, Gen, Rabin commented that Iraq participated in the war against Israel last June and the first Israeli plane to be shot down was brought down by the Iraqi forces.
