Racial relations in the United States are improving and discrimination is decreasing, according to a report published by the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States this weekend.

Dr. Oscar Lee, director of the department of racial and cultural relations of the Council, said that progress has been most noticeable in the field of education, and least noticeable in housing.

An interfaith message, published by the Synagogue Council of America, the Catholic Interracial Council and the Department of Racial and Cultural Relations of the Council of the Churches of Christ, was distributed in synagogues and churches this weekend. The message, signed by three co-chairmen of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, states that there is “a growing readiness within the nation for improving the status of minorities,” and emphasizes that the achievement of racial justice is imperative.

Simultaneously, a statement released by the Central Conference of American Rabbis appeals to Americans to rededicate themselves “to the principle of equal opportunity for all men.” The statement adds, “we are deeply heartened by the many significant gains in recent years and months in the correction of racial injustice.”
