Racism and xenophobia are growing in Germany, a new report says. According to German Situation 2004, 60 percent of Germans agree that there are too many “foreigners” in Germany, up from 55 percent last year. The annual study is the third in a series by sociologist Wilhelm Heitmeyer of the University of Bielefeld. Of the 2,600 people interviewed for the study, almost 70 percent agreed that Muslim culture does not fit with western mores. Last year, 66 percent held that view.
