Dr. Emanuel Rackman of New York was elected today by the board of trustees of the Bar Ilan University as the university’s president, it was announced by the university’s Chancellor, Dr. Joseph H. Lookstein, following a special session of the board.
Rackman is the spiritual leader of the Fifth Avenue Synagogue, member of the board of governors of the Jewish Agency, former president of the Rabbinical Council of America, former provost of Yeshiva University and past president of the Association of Jewish Chaplains of the Armed Forces of the U.S. The post of president was vacant for the last 10 years.
