More than $65,000 was raised here last night at the opening of the Keren Hayesod campaign at a banquet at which Lord Melchett, president of the English Zionist Federation, was enthusiastically greeted. Lord Melchett expressed the greatest admiration for the contribution of the South African Jews to the upbuilding of Palestine. The banquet was presided over by Leopold Greenberg, judge of the South African Supreme Court. Others present were Sir George Albu, Louis Marks, A. M. Abrahams, president of the African Zionist Federation, and Judah L. Landau, Chief Rabbi of South Africa. Messages were received from the Governor-General, Dr. Chaim Weizmann, Felix Warburg, Dr. Oscar Wasserman, Col. Frederick Kisch, Chief Rabbi Kook of Jerusalem, M. M. Ussishkin of the Jewish National Fund, the Vaad Leumi, and the head office of the Keren Hayesod.
