Jewish Education Month, Sept. 24 to Oct. 27, was in augurated at a Town Hall meeting tonight with Justice Samuel I. Rosenman, president of Jewish Education Committee, presiding and Harold G. Campbell, New York City, Superintendent of Schools, among the scheduled speakers. The month, sponsored by the Jewish Education Committee, will be marked by a city-wide Jewish school enrollment campaign conducted under the guidance of 32 sectional committees.
“Religious education will strengthen the democratic ideal and hasten the day when nations will again respect their neighbors, their treaties and the rights of human being Justice Rosenman declared in the opening address.
Campbell endorsed Jewish Education Month and stressed the value of religious education in preparing children for better citizenship and in providing a spiritual foundation for the regular education program of the school year.
Other scheduled speakers included Rabbi David de Sola Pool, Abram L. Sachar, the historian and educator; Dr. Alexender M. Dushkin, executive director of the Jewish Education Committee; Bernard Semel, chairman of Jewish Education Month; Samuel J. Borowsky, coordinator of Jewish Education Month activities; and Mrs. Gabriel Hamburger, who press a Jewish Education Month proclamation calling upon Jewish parents of New York to stand firm in their religious convictions and to provide for the spiritual guidance of their children by enrolling them in Jewish schools this year.
