The Federation of Sephardic Communities in Rumania held a Maimonides celebration here at which the speakers included the Spanish Ambassador in Bucharest, Don Pedro de Prat-Soutze and Stancu Bradisteanu, head of the Department of Public Worship in the Ministry of Education and Public Worship.
Chief Rabbi Sabattai Djaen of the Sephardic communities of Rumania delivered an address on the ethical ideas of Maimonides, and various professors spoke on the philosophical, medical and historical aspects of the renowned sage.
A proposal by Chief Rabbi Dr. Niemerover, the Chief Rabbi of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Rumania and representative of the Jewish faith in the Senate, was adopted. It requires every rabbi in Rumania to preach on the first evening of Passover a sermon on Maimonides, who was born on the eve of Passover 800 years ago, and to see that the local Jewish schools teach the children the significance of Maimonides.
