Resident General M. Peyrouton, ranking French official in Tunis, now here on leave, today told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency he has no knowledge whatever as to the reason why the French administration in Tunis started a drive against German Jews.
General Peyrouton added that he will order a reexamination of the cases of the deported families.
Senator Justin Godart, president of the League for the Preservation of Jewish Rights in Europe, intervened today with the French government, asking cancellation of the deportation order.
