The New Jersey Legislature will be recalled to change the date of the special election which was scheduled to be held Sept. 27, Gov. Moore announced in Jersey City. The recall is the result of State-wide protests received from Jewish organizations, who contend that many Jews would be disfranchised, as the election date coincides with Rosh Hashanah. It is expected that Gov. Moore will designate a day late this month for the session.
On the new election date New Jersey voters will act on the proposed constitutional amendments, which would shift Gubernatorial elections to Presidential years by extending the terms of Governors from three to four years, senators from three to four years, and Assemblymen from one to two, and also require biennial sessions of the Legislature.
