Recollections of the colorful part played in early American history by Jewish settlers in South Carolina, were brought forth in the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of Charleston, now being observed.

In a photogravure anniversary souvenir edition just published by the “News and Courier” of Charleston, the Temple of the Beth Elohim congregation is pictured along with other landmarks of the ancient city. The inscription under the picture recalls that the congregation was founded in 1750, the present synagogue being rebuilt in 1841.
