Israeli security circles are taking a serious view of recent incidents on the Egyptian front, the latest of which was yesterday’s overflight by two Egyptian Sukhoi 7 bombers over Israeli positions in northwest Sinai. A military spokesman said Israeli ground forces directed anti-aircraft fire at the intruding planes but did not say whether they had been hit. Israel has lodged a complaint with the United Nations Cease Fire Control Staff in Jerusalem.

Yesterday’s overflight was the third incident in the past two weeks. Earlier, Israeli planes were attacked by Egyptian fire and fighter planes over the Gulf of Suez and a naval clash between Israeli and Egyptian patrol boats took place in the Gulf of Suez after the Egyptians opened fire on an Israeli naval patrol.

Security circles said yesterday’s overflight appeared to be a photo reconnaissance mission. They said the penetration was a brief one and took place over a swampy region.
