The largest and most representative fund-raising army in the history of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies—more than 3,000 strong—will take the field in the coming emergency campaign, according to an announcement yesterday by the four chairmen of the drive, Arthur Lehman, Lawrence Marx. Paul M. Rosenthal and Percy S. Straus.
Seeking to meet an unprecedented financial situation, with $2,071,000 needed to complete a budget of $3,655,000 before December 31 to insure continuance of the ninety-one charitable agencies affiliated with the Federation, 134 committees have been organized, each representing a particular trade, profession or business.
This set-up will make possible the most comprehensive canvass ever attempted by the Federation.
“A single, stark fact sets the standard for our whole campaign this year,” the chairmen’s announcement said, “the fact that Federation must have, to keep the doors of its institutions open, no less than sixty per cent more than last year.
“Every plan, every effort is geared to this inescapable figure.”
The quotas of the various divisions, which were also announced yesterday, were in the majority of cases much in excess of last year’s. At the head of the list is the women’s division, set down to produce $550,000, with the bankers, at $450,000, in second position.
The largest professional quota is that for the lawyers, who are asked to raise $250,000.
