The Office of War Information today broadcast to the people of Hungary the recording of a service for the persecuted Jews of Hungary hold yesterday at the First Magyar Reformed Church.
The service was attended by about 500 Protestants, Catholics and Jews of Hungarian birth and ancestry who were Mogen David armbands as an expression of sympathy with the Jews of Hungary. It was conducted in English and Hungarian. Dr. Geza Takaro, pastor of the church, asked the congregation not to discard the Mogen David armbands at the end of the day, but to preserve them to be worn with pride on similar occasions until the liberation of Hungarian Jews is completed.
The congregation was also addressed by Louis Toth, professor at Cornell University and chairman of the presbyters of the church. Messages were read from Senator Robert F. Wagner, Mayor F. H. LaGuardia, Governor Thomas E. Dewey, Dr. Samuel McCrea Cavert, general secretary of the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America, and Most Rev. Francis J. Spellman, Roman Catholic Archbishop of New York.
