James T. Nicholson, American Red Cross official, today branded as a “complete misquotation” an alleged statement attributed to him by a Washington newspaper and recently quoted by Facts in Review, German propaganda organ published in New York, declaring he knew “of no atrocities to Jews in Poland.”
Commenting on the Facts in Review story, carried in its May 27 issue, Nicholson said: “….. this statement is a complete misquotation of remarks which I made at a press conference following my return from Poland Reports of this conference published by other newspapers will bear me out in this.” (At the conference, a report of which was carried in the April 19 issue of JTA NEWS, Nicholson had refused to comment on reported mass executions in Poland other than to say, “That’s not in my parish,” explaining that the Red Cross still had “to do business” in Poland.)
