The Communists who have put up a list of their own, the “Proletarian List”, as they call it, for the elections to the Palestine Jewish Assembly, are finding themselves subjected to strict police surveillance, and a number of their candidates and campaigners have been arrested.
Two of their candidates in Jerusalem, Abraham Schwartz and Miriam Eliash, have been arrested at an election meeting held here. Four others have been arrested here for distributing Communist literature in connection with the campaign, and two men and three women have been arrested at Haifa for distributing election circulars calling for support for the “Proletarian List”.
