The re-election of A. B. Polinsky of San Diego. Cal., and Marvin J. Silberman of White Plains, N. Y. to fourth successive terms as general chairman and associate general chairman of the Combined Campaign for American Reform Judaism, the central agency far support of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, took place here last night at the semi-annual meeting of the Campaign’s national board.
Irving S. Schneider of New York, executive vice-chairman of the nationwide religious drive, in reporting on officers and objectives for the 1959-1960 fund-raising effort to be opened on July 1st, told the board that the Combined Campaign has an expectancy of at least $2,150, 000 by the time its current 1958-1959 drive is terminated at the end of June.
In noting that the current drive will exceed last year’s results by at least $100, 000, Mr. Schneider emphasized, however, that “the total, even though it represents an all-time fund-raising record for the reform movement, will fall short of the actual financial requirements of both the UAHC and the HUC-JIR. ” These requirements came to $2,850, 000 for the year ending June 30th.
