A Reform synagogue which staged an unprecedented rock music program at a Friday night service last April will offer the world premier of Thanksgiving “Prayers for Peace” composed in the same genre by Gary William Friedman, it was announced today. Rabbi Martin J. Zion, of Temple Israel here, said the performance, on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 23, would be open to the public. The piece is based on the composer’s rock oratorio “Prayers for Friday Night” which drew more than 1,500 persons when it was first performed in the synagogue. Cantor Jonas I. Jabna, tenor soloist, will be joined by the temple choir and a rock orchestra of percussion and strings under the direction of the composer for the performance.
