A group of Austrian, Czech and German political refugees living in the Manchester area today placed themselves at the disposal of British authorities for anti-aircraft or any other useful services.

In a letter to the Lord Mayor, the group said: “The Hitler regime is a scourge on the whole of humanity. The common struggle of all democratic forces is the necessity of the hour, a struggle which has as its aim to overthrow Hitler and secure peace through the establishment of a free, democratic Germany and the restoration and independence of those peoples whom Hitler has attacked.”
