A check for $48,500 for the purchase of a fighter plane to be named “Loyalty” was presented to the War Department today by a delegation from the Loyalty Committee of Victims of Nazi and Fascist Aggression, which represents refugees from Nazi and Fascist occupied Europe.
The check, representing 16,000 individual contributions from all parts of the United States, was handed to Assistant War Secretary Robert M. Lovett by Arthur Cohen, chairman of the Loyalty Committee, who led the delegation. In a statement road to Mr. Lovett, Mr. Cohen said that “this fighter plane will be a fighting symbol of the loyalty to America that is in the hearts of all those who found in America not only a blessed refuge but a new homeland.”
