A conference of leading Austrian nerve specialists opened here yesterday to discuss what is being hailed as an “epoch making discovery” in the treatment of dementia praecox by Dr. Manfred Sakel, German-Jewish refugee who is now conducting a clinic in America. The treatment, details of which were made public by Dr. Sakel prior to his departure several months ago, employs “insulin shock” as its principal feature.
Prof. Potzl, prominent nerve specialist, told the conference that despite the attacks against Dr. Sakel’s method by many Vienna psychiatrists, he has handled 700 cases, of which 70 percent were successful.
