A large party of refugees planned to sail today for the United States after a voyage across the Baltic on the steamship Birger Jarl of the Svea Steamship Co. from the Latvian port of Ventspils (Windau) during which the ship was stopped by a German warship.
The Nazi naval vessel took the steamer to the control port of Swinemuende. The refugees were permitted to continue their voyage when it was established that their immigration papers for the United States were in order.
