A new novel by the distinguished German Jewish novelist and dramatist, Franz Werfel, was prohibited today by the German authorities. The novel deals with present day Jewish life in Germany.
Werfel, who was the recipient of the Schiller prize for literature in 1928, is best known in the United States for his plays, “Goal Song,” “Paul Among the Jews” and “Juarez and Maximilian.”
NEW ONES CAN BE FORMED UNDER GOVERNMENT SUPERVISION
The Maccabbee and the Organization of Jewish War Veterans, the only two Jewish sport organizations permitted in Germany under th Third Reich, were dissolved today throughout Bavaria. The dissolutin order was given by the political police of Bavaria, who declared that while these organizations would no longer be permitted to exist, the Federation of Jewish Communities would be allowed to form new Jewish sport groups under specified conditions.
