The Reichstag, German federal parliament, by a majority vote decided yesterday to deliver to the jurisdiction of the courts one of its members, charged with virulent anti-Semitic propaganda.
The member, Deputy Strasser, was summoned to court following the decision of the Reichstag to lift his parliamentary immunity. He declined to answer the call. The parliamentary action yesterday was necessary to make possible compulsory police escort to the court. When the decision was taken the anti-Semitic deputies, members of the national socialist party, raised a tumult.
It became necessary for Herr Loebe, speaker of the house, to order Strasser’s ejection from the hall.
“Jewish Republic” and “Jewish government” are not insulting terms, according to a decision of the Federal Court which today acquitted the anti-Semitic leader, Guenther, of Koenigsberg.
The court ruled that the application of these terms does not constitute an insult as he who utters them merely wishes to assert that “the Jews strive toward power in the Republic.”
