The Canadian press reports today that restrictions on employment of interned refugees who have been released from internment are now being lifted. Up to now the employment of such persons has had to be approved by the Immigration Department. In future they will be in the same position as “friendly enemy aliens” who were in Canada before the outbreak of war. But their status as residents under the immigration regulations has not been changed. They are in Canada on temporary permits and have not been granted permanent entry.
