Anti-bias legislation “with teeth in it” was urged here at hearings conducted by the State Commission Against Discrimination on the question of legislation barring racial or religious prejudice by employers.
Representatives of CIO unions, churches, synagogues and legal groups urged enactment of measures containing sufficiently strange penalties and powers of enforcement to make them effective. Louis Hollander, president of the State CIO, urged that legislation on job discrimination include a provision of a $5,000 fine or one year in jail for employers who violate the law.
