The president of the Religious Zionists of America today praised Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey and former Vice President Richard M. Nixon, the Democratic and Republican Presidential candidates, for the stands they have taken on Israel. Rabbi Herschel Schachter referred to the two Presidential aspirants in his report to 500 delegates attending the opening here of the 59th annual convention of the Religious Zionists.

Rabbi Schachter said he was “gratified with the vigorous position taken by the candidates and the platforms adopted at the national conventions of both parties which reaffirm the commitment of the United States to protect Israel and to help establish a lasting peace in that troubled area.” He noted that both Mr. Humphrey and Mr. Nixon have asserted that it was in the vital interest of the U.S. and the cause of world peace that Israel be provided with sufficient military strength to deter Arab aggression.
