The remains of Prof. Hermann Schapira, noted Zionist pioneer and one of the founders of the Jewish National Fund and a Professor of Higher Mathematics at Heidelberg University, were exhumed today at a suburban Jewish cemetery in preparation for their shipment for reinterment in Jerusalem Monday.
Present at the ceremony were the entire staff of the Israel purchasing mission in this city and various Jewish leaders. Prof. Schapira, a Russian Jew trained for the rabbinate who later turned to mathematics, died in 1898, three years before the JNF was actually established.
