Remnants of an ancient synagogue bearing Samaritan inscriptions have been uncovered by archaeologists digging in the village of Salvith, which overlooks the Ayalon Valley.
Dr. Eliezer Sukenik, Israel’s leading archaeologist, who is directing the excavations, thinks he has discovered the site of a town whose name is not known but which dates back to the era of King Solomon. The excavations are financed by a special fund donated by Louis M. Rabinovitz of New York.
