Rep. Bella Abzug (D.NY) resigned June 11 from the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom in protest against the misuse of her name in a letter sent to members of Congress by the New York branch opposing aid to Israel. Ms. Abzug, who supports the Israeli aid request, also dispatched letters to Sen. Jacob Javits (R. NY) and other members of the Senate disassociating herself from the letter. The national leaders of the WILPF also assured Ms. Abzug that they would write to members of the Senate disassociating the national organization from the New York letter which they said was sent without their knowledge.
