Rep. Bob Barr (R-Ga.), who recently spoke at a meeting of the Council of Conservative Citizens, said he found the views of the white supremacist group abhorrent. Barr’s statement came after Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.), who has also spoken in front of the council, repudiated the views of the pro-segregationist group, which has its roots in the 1950s Citizens Councils of America. Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke is scheduled to speak in front of the group in Washington on Saturday.
