Anti-Semitism appears to be spreading among the Russian factory workers despite the government’s severe punishment of anti-Semites. Reports in the local press today tell of anti-Semitic occurrences in Moscow, Minsk and Mohilev.
A Russian worker by the name of Matrosov is reported to have shut up a fellow Jewish worker in the steam department of a Moscow timber plant and turned on the steam. When other workers sought to release the imprisoned Jew Matrosov barred the way and laughed at them. When the door was finally broken down the Jewish worker was unconscious. Matrosov has been arrested.
In Minsk and Mohilev three Christian workers have been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment each for maltreating Jewish co-workers.
