The German press today carries a sensational report alleging that the British Government intends to transfer its Near East military base from Malta to Haifa, in Palestine, thus making Palestine the most important strategic center on the Mediterranean.
According to the report the British Government will build a railway from Haifa to Aqaba, thus establishing a direct outlet to the Red Sea which will make it possible to reach the Orient without passing through the Suez Canal.
