Renewal of the “dollar inquisition” in Soviet Russia on a grand scale is described in a communication received by a Polish Jew from a Russian relative and published in the Warsaw “Hajnt”.
The writer of the letter, who is described as living in the Kiev district declares that in the last two months “thousands of Jews have been imprisoned with the purposes of extracting dollars and gold from them.”
The Spanish Inquisition represents only a fraction of the horrors experienced by Russian Jews arrested in this fashion, says the letter. Food is permitted to be sent to the imprisoned only once in five days or once weekly and parcels must not contain food for more than one day, the communication states.
