A sensational report carried by Mokkatam, Palestine Arab paper, that High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope would not return to Palestine and that Viscount Allenby would be appointed to the post, is “nonsense,” the Jewish Telegraphic Agency was informed by high governmental authorities.
According to Mokkatam, Viscount Allenby, conqueror of the Turks in the World War, was to have received the appointment because Great Britain intended to convert Palestine into the strongest military center in the Near East and thus guard her road to India and the Far East.
