The Coventry Education Committee, local school board which has been employing Colin Jordan, leader of the British National Socialist movement, as a school teacher, has received letters from all over England, “demanding overwhelmingly that he not be allowed to continue teaching,” it was stated here today by Tom Locksley, vice-chairman of the Coventry Education Committee.
The Coventry board, said Mr. Locksley, will meet July 19, to consider Jordan’s possible dismissal from the local school system. Jordan came into renewed prominence last week, following a rally held by his group in Trafalgar Square here. Anti-Semitic slogans and speeches at the rally attracted a crowd of 5, 000, and police were forced to arrest 20 of the anti-fascist hecklers before Jordan’s group gave up its efforts to continue with the meeting
Sir Ronald Gould, general secretary of the National Union of Teachers, which had previously announced that it would support Jordan’s fight against dismissal, stated today that such support would be “no more than routine,” Jordan is entitled to that “routine” help, said Sir Ronald, “like any other member is entitled to the services of the union’s legal officers and other union officials.”
