Rep. Jacob K. Javits today introduced two resolutions in Congress in an attempt to curb hate literature aimed against religious and minority groups.
Anti-Semitic propaganda, said Rep. Javits, “under the cover of anti-Communism” is “transmitting a newly increased stream of violent hate propaganda through the mails. ” One resolution asks that the Postmaster General report on the extent of such hate mailings and recommend measures to bar such matter from the mails.
The second resolution calls for an investigation to be made by the House Committee on Post Office and Civil Service of the exploitation of the mails for the purpose of distributing false and defamatory allegations attacking the virtue and patriotism of racial and religious groups.
According to Rep. Javits 500. 000 copies of anti-Jewish matter originating in Sweden were recently sent through the United States mails.
