Resolutions in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives praising Palestinian Authority elections passed overwhelmingly. Both resolutions were sponsored by leaders of both parties. The Senate resolution, passed Tuesday by acclamation, recognized Mahmoud Abbas as Palestinian Authority president and outlined expectations that Israel ease conditions for the Palestinians.
