At conferences held here and in Warsaw, Poland, the ITO, Jewish Territorialist Association, has been reorganized, it was announced here today.
Participating in the reorganization were Dr. M. Lvovitch, Dr. Georg Bernhard, famous German Jewish editor; Dr. Alfred Boeblin, German Jewish novelist, Chacham Moses Gaster of England; Dr. Aaron Singalowski of the People’s ORT Federation, and Dr. M. Tschernichow.
Dr. Chaim Zhitlovski, noted American Jewish publicist, is also listed as a member of the reorganization committee.
The new organization adopted a program calling for concentrated Jewish immigration into territories capable of absorbing Jewish immigrants.
The Territorialist group, unlike the Zionist organization, calls for the settlement of Jewish immigrants in some territory, not necessarily Palestine, which is capable of absorbing large numbers of Jews.
Israel Zangwill, Anglo-Jewish novelist was a Territorialist and advocated the settlement of Jews in the Uganda territory in Africa. Practically every unsettled area in the world was under consideration at one time or another by the advocates of Territorialism.
The Zionists, however, refuse to consider settlement in any country but Palestine.
