The so-called Aryan clause barring non-Aryans from positions in the German Protestant Church has been removed. This, in effect, would make possible the holding of church office by Christians of Jewish ancestry.
Revocation of the Aryan clause, while hailed as a victory of the moderate elements in the church, is expected to be counteracted by new regulations governing the admission of students of theological seminaries. A law establishing a strict one and a half percent numerus clausus for non-Aryan students will be promulgated, according to the church press department. The law will make the racial principle as binding in the church as the Aryan clause which now has been revoked.
